SAN DIEGO-Today Democrat Jerlilia Ryans announced her candidacy for San Diego Congressional District 50. She is committed to challenging Incumbent Scott Peters in making changes and creating policies that will focus more on American Core Values, rather than Big Pharma and Political Corporate Pac.

Jerlilia’s fight is not that of her own, but rather that of the San Diego 50th District, and the American people. She is committed to rolling up her sleeves, and fighting hard for Women Reproduction Freedom, Abortions Rights, Accessible Healthcare, LGBTGQ Rights, Homelessness, Lowering Drug Cost and the Economy. Jerlilia knows and believes that in congress she can deliver policy solutions to protect Communities. Giving the pass act of Incumbent Scott Peters in torpedoing a plan to let Medicare negotiate drug prices for the American people, gave her the strength to run for congress against Mr. Peters. According to data from Open Secrets, and during Mr. Peters Congressional career, he “have raised a combined 1.5 million from donors in the Pharmaceutical and health products industries. Jerlilia will NOT accept any Big Pharma money in exchange for the American people’s welfare”. According to Open Secrets, “Mr Peters is one of the top recipients of Big Pharma Cash”.

Jerlilia knows all too well what it’s like of not having money to pay for Prescription Drugs or having medical Insurance. When Jerlilia was in her last year of Law School, her sister had a major stroke. Before Jerlilia’s sister had the stroke, she ran a small business for over 30 years but could not afford medical Insurance for herself or her employees. When Jerlilia took on responsibility of taking care of her, she realized she had no Healthcare insurance. Her sister prescription drugs were approximately 4,500.00 per month, and the Hospital Bills ran in the thousands. The money she saved for Law School, she used that for her sister’s care. Eventually she had to take out a loan to cover the rest of the cost of Law School Tuition. Jerlilia is a fighter, and know when given a challenge, she will fight hard for what is right. Jerlilia main goals, among many, is to find solution that will keep communities safe, healthy, and make life better for everyone.

Jerlilia is the first in her family to attend and graduate from college. She grew up poor in the inner city of Los Angeles, where she knows all too well the struggles of families, affordable health and medical care, as well as Economic needs. After high school, she attended and received a BA Degree in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego. She went on to own several small businesses, earn a Master's in Business Administration, and a Law Degree. Jerlilia has lived in San Diego for over 40 years and have talked to many of her constituents about what what is important to them. When listening to their needs, she realized their concerns were just like hers. Just in speaking to her Constituents, she knew she had to run for congress to make changes that will deal with Kitchen table issues. Although, she may be considered the underdog, she knows what she has to do and what she is up against. She has to run her campaign on a strict budget that consist of Grassroots donations and cannot do it without the help of others. Jerlilia cannot be bought or sold by Big Pharma or Political Pac and will do everything she can to win her fight for San Diego 50th Congressional District.
